Located in the place of Perucha, located between Freixianda and Fárrio, this chapel was an important place to visit at the Estrada Real. It was on this road that passed the Mala Posta and many travelers who stayed overnight in the many inns and lodges there. Even today it is possible to observe the Roman bridge.
In this place there was also a pharmacy and a primary school.
According to the parish, this temple was built to Nossa Senhora da Piedade and it is from the second half of the eighteenth century.
It can also be read in the parochial archives: “Tereza de Oliveira, died on 04.03.1803 and Joana Inacia de Oliveira, deceased on 06.21.1803 and buried in the chapel of Perucha. Were they the founders? “
The image of Nossa Senhora da Piedade, patroness of this Chapel, was blessed by Father Faustino in 1919 with permission granted on April 23 of that year by Bishop D. João, Archbishop of Mytilene of Lisbon.
In an article written by Mr. António Marques Rosa, it can be read: “It is estimated that the chapel of Perucha was built from 1760 to 1810, because in the dung of the tower door it reads the era of 1810 and the tower was built against the wall of the chapel already made … “
